EPS works in support of local authorities who are required to assess the risk and determine the extent of land contamination of publically and privately owned sites.

We provide a contaminated land officer service which operates as an integral part of your environmental services department, giving you the resource and expertise to carry out Part IIA site assessments and contaminated land classifications, as well as providing support for technical review of data and reports submitted through the planning system.

Pasrt IIa Assessment - Former Gasworks

EPS recently undertook a Part IIa investigation for South Cambs DC of a former gasworks site which had been developed as residential housing. The investigation identified unacceptable levels of TPH, PAH and VOCs in shallows soils in domestic gardens and also in groundwater within the underlying principal aquifer. Through close and regular liaison with the council, the Environment Agency and concerned residents, EPS undertook a detailed risk assessment which formed the basis for determination of the site as Contaminated Land and subsequently as a Special Site based on an on-going risk to controlled waters, enabling the financial burden of remediation to taken on by the Environment Agency.
